Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia School of Law Alexander Campbell King Law Library was awarded the American Association of Law Libraries/West Excellence in Marketing Award for Best PR Tool Kit at the 2007 AALL Annual Meeting last month for its first-year student orientation promotion in the fall of 2006.
The law library takes advantage of a captive first-year student audience during the students’ first day of law school orientation. “Our goal is to provide a fun and informative introduction to the law library’s staff and services, thereby setting the tone for a positive relationship between the students and the law library throughout their three years here,” the law library’s PR team leader and Foreign and International Law Librarian Anne Burnett said.
The first-year law students were introduced to the law library staff and given a goody bag containing items to help navigate the law library. Then, the staff delivered formal information sessions regarding the library’s resources.
The AALL’s goal is to promote and enhance the value of law libraries to the legal and public communities, to foster the profession of law librarianship and to provide leadership in the field of legal information. The Best PR Tool Kit Award recognizes outstanding achievement in public relations activities, and the law library received a plaque and a $250 check.
