UGA School of Social Work hosts events to observe National Social Work Month

In support of National Social Work Month, the UGA School of Social Work will hold several events with a focus on this year’s theme, “Social Workers Stand Up!”

On March 13 at 7 p.m., the Center for Social Justice, Human and Civil Rights and the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences religion department will present the lecture “Mobilizing the Constructive Moral Power of Faith” in the Chapel. The speaker, David Gushee, is the Distinguished University Professor of Christian Ethics and founder and director of the Center for Theology and Public Life at Mercer University.

On March 18, the UGA chapter of the Phi Alpha Honor Society will induct new members in a ceremony in the Reading Room of the Miller Learning Center. The society recognizes outstanding scholarship, leadership, service, impact and commitment to social work ideals.

On March 20 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., the International Social Work Student Association will celebrate global social work practice with presentations, guest speakers, cultural demonstrations and an international potluck.

“Self-Care Day,” an annual student-run event held throughout the Social Work building featuring activities that share ways to avoid and reduce stress, will be held March 21.

The continuing education workshop, “Self-Care for Workers in Helping Professions: from Ways of Living to Ways of Being,” will be held March 25 on the UGA Gwinnett campus.
