UGA sculpture student wins regional award

Athens, Ga. – Stacy Isenbarger, an MFA candidate in sculpture in the University of Georgia’s Lamar Dodd School of Art, has been named one of two winners of a 2008 Tri State Sculptors Memorial Scholarship.

Isenbarger was named winner during the 30th Annual Conference of Tri State Sculptors in Johnson City, Tenn., recently. In addition to the $500 scholarship, Isenbarger was awarded free membership in the organization, a waiver of the conference fee and travel support to attend the conference.

Also named a winner was Jaclyn Senne, a junior at the Kansas City Art Institute. She and Isenbarger were chosen for the award by a panel of sculpture professionals.

“Both Stacy and Jaclyn make hauntingly beautiful and demanding work,” said T.S.S. President Greg Shelnutt. “Being able to hear Stacy talk about why she creates was a very powerful moment.”

Tri State Sculptors was formed in 1978 by a group of sculptors from Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. The Lamar Dodd School of Art is part of UGA’s Franklin College of Arts and Sciences.
