The University of Georgia has been actively monitoring the development of a winter storm headed to our area.
With the safety and security of our faculty, staff and students foremost in our minds, the University of Georgia Athens Campus will close and move to modified operations on Friday, January 10, 2025. All in-person classes, campus events and activities will be canceled throughout the day.
Faculty members are expected to ensure continuity of instruction by making up for the missed material through alternative means. This may include online lectures, readings, assignments, or other instructional activities, which are clearly communicated to students.
Essential personnel—employees who have been identified by their department or unit as critical to the maintenance and operations of the University, particularly providing essential support to students—are expected to report on time unless conditions prevent safe travel. Essential personnel should contact their supervisors for additional information.
Drop/add will be extended until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2025.
All UGA residence halls will remain open. For on-campus residents in University Housing, please contact your community front desk or RA with any questions or concerns. If you become aware of any facilities-related problems, please report them.
All dining halls will remain open, but opening will be delayed by one hour on Friday, and closing times may be adjusted if weather conditions warrant. Campus Transit will end service as scheduled on Friday, January 10, at 3:00 a.m. and will resume service when weather conditions make it safe to do so.

We fully expect to resume classes and be back to normal operations on Monday, January 13. With respect to weekend operations, please continue to check emergency.uga.edu or UGA’s social accounts, including UGA’s X (@universityofga), for updates and other safety information.
Faculty, staff and students at UGA’s extended campuses should follow local directions specific to their locations.
