Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Office of Sustainability and Go Green Alliance are hosting Campus Sustainability Day 2011 on Oct. 26 to celebrate achievements and discuss future actions toward a more sustainable UGA.
The day will begin with a sustainability fair from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Tate Center Plaza. It will feature Athens-based band Modern Skirts and information tables promoting sustainability initiatives from student and community organizations. Attendees are encouraged to use alternative forms of transportation such as carpooling, taking the bus, biking or walking. For those who ride a bicycle, free tune-ups will be available at the fair.
The UGA Bookstore will also offer discounts on sustainability-related items throughout the day.
An afternoon forum will be held from 2-4 p.m. in the UGA Chapel and will feature conservationist and business leader Rutherford Seydel, who is a managing partner of Davis, Pickren, Seydel and Sneed, LLP.
Following the keynote speaker, a panel of university leaders will discuss the next steps in campus sustainability. Forum panelists will include John Gittleman, dean, Odum School of Ecology; Scott Angle, dean, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences; Daniel Nadenicek, dean, College of Environment and Design; Peter Brosius, director, Center for Integrative Conservation Research; and Rick Watson, director, Center for Information Systems Leadership in the Terry College of Business.
A reception will follow the panel discussion.
