University Health Center wins customer service award from governor for clinical team initiative

The Governor’s Commendation for Excellence in Customer Service was awarded to the University Health Center’s Clinical Practice redesign team at the Capitol building Jan. 21.

The team provided leadership in implementing a new same-day appointment system at the center. Primary care is provided by four teams of medical professionals consisting of physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners. Students are assigned to one personal clinician who is a member of a medical team. Teams are identified by the color gold, red, blue or green. Patients are seen by appointment the same day or on the day of their choice.

“The end result is that students are encouraged to build a relationship with their medical team and are provided more personalized service, continuity of care and shorter waiting times,” said Dr. Jean Chin, executive director of the health center and project sponsor the for the redesign.

In addition to Chin, members of the Clinical Practice Redesign team are Dr. Ron Forehand, director of medical services and team leader; Dr. Margaret Cramer, lead physician; Dr. Ron Elliott, lead physician; Carol Gardner, clinic manager; Martha Davis Gollin, associate director of patient services; Lynn Hatmaker, medical services coordinator; Carol McGinnis, clinic manager; Dr. John Leffert, lead dentist; Rita Peacock, IT professional specialist; Lynn Peery, clinic manager; Dr. Paul Peteet, lead physician; Sandy Pyle, clinic manager; Elizabeth Rachun, public relations coordinator; Dr. Garth Russo, lead physician; Dr. Kevin Sanville, lead physician; Charlotte Trice, dental clinic manager; and Amanda Wosotowsky, IT specialist.
