In light of improving conditions, the University of Georgia will reopen on a delayed schedule on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Staff should report at noon, and the first in-person class for students will begin at 1:15 p.m.
All dining halls are scheduled to open at 9:30 a.m., and Campus Transit service will begin at 12:15 p.m. University Housing remains open for students who live on campus.
The delayed start will provide campus operations teams with additional time to address any remaining hazards. Even with the delay, we realize that some members of our campus community may face unique challenges for travel depending upon their location. Employees are encouraged to contact their supervisors to discuss arrangements in these circumstances. Likewise, students should contact their instructors if they are experiencing ongoing challenges. The flexibility of supervisors and instructors would be greatly appreciated during this difficult time. Those returning to campus should do so only when they believe conditions are safe for travel.
Faculty members are expected to ensure continuity of instruction by making up for any instructional material missed during the winter storm closure. This may include online lectures (which may be asynchronous), readings, assignments, or other instructional activities, which are clearly communicated to students. However, no online instruction should occur prior to classes resuming tomorrow afternoon to allow those that are traveling the time to do so safely.
Essential personnel—employees who have been identified by their department or unit as critical to the maintenance and operations of the University, particularly providing essential support to students—are expected to report to work as scheduled unless conditions prevent safe travel. Essential personnel should contact their supervisors for additional information.
Faculty, staff and students at UGA’s extended campuses should follow local directions specific to their locations.
As we resume regular operations following this winter storm, we express our sincere gratitude to the dedicated staff members who worked around the clock to keep our campus community safe, maintain essential operations and prepare campus for our return. We also appreciate the flexibility of our faculty to ensure the continuity of missed instructional hours during the University’s closure.
