Virtuoso violinist Benjamin Beilman returns to Athens March 30

Benjamin Beilman is one of the leading violinists of his generation, winning international praise for his passionate performances and deep, rich tone, which the Washington Post called “mightily impressive.”

He made his UGA recital debut in 2014 and maintains an active and illustrious career — recently touring the United States with the Berlin Philharmonic. On March 30 at 3 p.m., he appears at Ramsey Concert Hall with pianist Gloria Chien.

Beilman has performed with major orchestras like the Philadelphia Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic and Zurich Tonhalle, and is on the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music. He is dedicated to contemporary music, performing new works by Frederic Rzewski, Gabriella Smith and Jennifer Higdon, among others. He performs on the 1740 “Ysaÿe” Guarneri del Gesù, on loan from the Nippon Music Foundation.

Taiwanese-born pianist Gloria Chien has a diverse musical life as a noted performer, concert presenter and educator. She made her orchestral debut at the age of 16 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Thomas Dausgaard, and she performed again with the BSO with Keith Lockhart. She has performed at the UGA Performing Arts Center on two previous occasions in collaborative performances with Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and with Anthony McGill.

This performance replaces the previously announced concert by the Tetzlaff Quartet and is supported by John A. Maltese.
