Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Lamar Dodd School of Art Main Gallery presents VOLUME, a series of five week-long solo exhibitions individually featuring the work of Lamar Dodd School of Art Master and Bachelor of Fine Arts candidates. VOLUME begins on April 9 and will be open to the public until May 11, with a new programmatic element occurring each week in conjunction with each solo exhibition. VOL. 1 features John Powers, VOL. 2 features Katherine R McGuire, VOL. 3 features Euni Figi, VOL. 4 features McDavid Moore and VOL. 5 features Motoko Inoue. The first event for VOLUME will be an opening reception showcasing Power’s kinetic installation, Remember, on Thursday, April 12 from 7 – 9 p.m. in the Main Gallery.
VOLUME is a series of five spatial, volumetric exhibitions sited, one after another, specifically within the Lamar Dodd School of Art Main Gallery. While diverse in scale, medium, and intent, these works each require the participation of the viewer in order to be brought fully into being, and they share a singular concern: overcoming the gap between art and life. Each week, the School of Art Main Gallery will undergo a transformation at the hands of an emerging artist, exploring themes and agendas that include the futility of the work-a-day world (McDavid Moore), the power of human memory on the senses (John Powers and Motoko Inoue), the institutionalization of learning (Katherine R McGuire) and the restrictive and invasive process of naturalization and immigration into the United States (Euni Figi). Together, the five solo exhibitions that comprise VOLUME carry a complex dialogue and audience-participatory examination of art, space, and identity.
The schedule for VOLUME exhibitions and programmatic elements follows:
VOL. 1 John Powers April 9 – 13 (Event: Thursday, April 12, 7 – 9 p.m.)
VOL. 2 Katherine R McGuire April 16 – 20 (Event: Thursday, April 19, 7 – 9 p.m.)
VOL. 3 Euni Figi April 23 – 27 (Reception: Thursday, April 26, 7 – 9 p.m.)
