War veteran wins tuition fight

A former U.S. Marine who was initially denied in-state tuition at Austin Community College will be attending classes at the lower rate.

The 27-year-old Texas native, who lived in Louisiana before joining the Marines and serving in Iraq, was told by college officials at first that he didn’t meet residency requirements. The Texas Land Commission, which oversees benefits for veterans, helped the former Marine write a letter saying that he qualifies for in-state tuition because he changed his residency back to Texas last year.

The Iraqi War veteran plans to become a paramedic.
