The final episode of the HBO series Sex and the City was previewed in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch with a lengthy analysis of the show’s success in redefining the image of women. Speech communication professor Bonnie Dow was one of the experts interviewed for the story. “Women characters on television had been portrayed before as sexual predators, but these women were different in that they were unapologetic about enjoying sex,” she said. “They sometimes behaved badly, but they were still likable, and we were expected to identify with them.”
