Athens, Ga. – WUGA FM, the public radio station in Athens operated by the University of Georgia in partnership with Georgia Public Broadcasting, received two Gabby awards and one merit award at the annual Georgia Association of Broadcasters Honors Night held in Atlanta June 2.
The Gabby’s are presented each year to outstanding radio and television stations as well as to individual broadcasters. WUGA’s winners were:
· News anchor John Lorinc for his reporting on the Christmas album produced by Athens musician John Keane with his daughters; and,
· Handle With Care, a weekly program produced and hosted by Telmeko Smith which tells inspiring stories and provides helpful information for persons dealing with overwhelming obstacles and challenges in their lives.
In addition, Just Off the Radar, a weekly new music series produced and hosted by Joe Silva, received a merit award from the GAB.
“It is rewarding be recognized for a job well done,” said Jimmy Sanders, director of TV and radio at WUGA. “Our team works tirelessly to assure that we produce positive, relevant programming for our listening audience.”
Affiliated with the National Association of Broadcasters, GAB is a trade association representing the interests of over-the-air radio and television broadcasters in Georgia.
