WUGA-TV and WUGA-FM 91.7 and 97.9, the public stations operated by the University of Georgia, have added local news broadcasts this month.
On March 4, WUGA-FM began broadcasting additional local afternoon newscasts to its existing slate of daily morning broadcasts. The news updates air at 12:04 p.m., 1:04 p.m., 3:04 p.m., 4:04 p.m., 4:32 p.m., 5:04 p.m. and 5:32 p.m.
The station already aired local newscasts weekdays at 6:33 a.m., 7:33 a.m. and at 8:33 a.m., with a broadcast at 10:04 a.m. added on March 4.
The morning newscasts are reported by Matt Shedd, who came to UGA from KLCC, the public radio station in Eugene, Ore.
The new afternoon updates are anchored by Alexia Ridley, who has worked as a television and radio reporter/producer, anchor, executive producer and news director.
On March 11, WUGA-TV began airing seven local news broadcasts on weekdays at 1:58 p.m., 2:58 p.m., 3:58 p.m., 4:58 p.m. 5:28 p.m., 5:58 p.m. and 6:58 p.m. These broadcast also will be anchored by Ridley.
