Athens, Ga. – Four finalists for the position of university librarian and associate provost at the University of Georgia will visit campus this month to meet with members of the university community.
A committee chaired by David S. Williams, associate provost and director of the Honors Program, conducted a national search to identify the finalists and was assisted by the UGA Search Group in Human Resources.
Each finalist will make a public presentation from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the auditorium (Room 271) of the Richard B. Russell Building Special Collections Libraries. In addition, teaching and research faculty will have the opportunity to meet with the finalists at a reception from 3-4 p.m. in the third floor reading room of the main library. The finalists and the dates of their presentations and receptions are:
• Toby Graham, deputy university librarian and director of the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library at UGA, May 13;
• Jerry W. Stephens, director of the Mervyn H. Sterne Library at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, May 15;
• Beth McNeil, associate dean for academic affairs and professor of library science at Purdue University, May 21; and
• Grace Agnew, associate university librarian for digital library systems at Rutgers University, May 28.

The university librarian and associate provost is the chief executive officer for the UGA Libraries and reports to the senior vice president for academic affairs and provost. The UGA Libraries includes four principal facilities: the Ilah Dunlap Little Memorial Library (main library), the science library, the Zell B. Miller Learning Center and the Richard B. Russell Building Special Collections Libraries. The UGA Press and The Georgia Review literary journal also report to the university librarian and are housed in the main library. William Gray Potter, who has been head of the UGA Libraries since 1989, previously announced that he will retire on Aug. 31 following a 25-year career at UGA.
