Athens, Ga. - The University of Georgia Office of Undergraduate Admissions recently updated the UGA Admissions iPhone app that was launched two years ago.

The new version 3.0, which is available for the Apple iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad as a free download in iTunes, has been updated to include a location-aware audiovisual tour of North Campus, searchable majors by school and areas of interest, emergency contacts, information requests, timelines, and UGA quick facts and traditions. These features are in addition to the current version, which offers an application status check and application information, a transfer equivalency search, a campus map with Google directions, a UGA directory search feature and campus news.

"We are pleased to offer this upgrade to the UGA Admissions iPhone app to help streamline the university's application experience and provide even more interesting and informative content for our applicants, students, faculty, staff and visitors to UGA," said David Crouch, IT associate director for the admissions office. "It has been encouraging to see mobile development becoming more widespread at the University of Georgia, and we look forward to offering additional mobile features and services in the near future."

In addition to the iPhone app, the admissions office offers a mobile website, blog and online chat events to help prospective and newly accepted students access the most current information when they want it.

"The admissions office continues to meet students' communication needs with a combination of technology and customer service," said Nancy McDuff, associate vice president for admissions and enrollment management. "Today's students are accustomed to having answers at their fingertips almost instantly. UGA is meeting these needs by providing students access to the information they require outside of the traditional admissions office hours."

Upcoming features of the iPhone app will include an expanded walking tour of campus using GPS technology, as well a photo gallery and weather guide.
