Athens, Ga. - The University of Georgia has awarded eight Bernard Ramsey Honors Scholarships to high-performing students joining the Class of 2020.

Administered by the UGA Honors Program, the Ramsey Honors Scholars program was created by UGA Foundation trustees in 2000 and recognizes the university's most generous individual benefactor to date, Bernard Ramsey, the former chairman of Merrill Lynch and a 1937 graduate of UGA's Terry College of Business.

The incoming class of Ramsey Scholars has an average SAT score of 1547 (math and verbal) and an average ACT score of 35, with an average high school grade point of 4.28 on a 4.0 scale; extra points indicate advanced placement courses.

"The new Ramsey Scholars have an impressive record of academic achievements and an exciting array of talents," said David S. Williams, associate provost and director of UGA's Honors Program. "We look forward to working with them."

The scholarship awards in-state students an annual stipend of $6,400 and the Zell Miller Scholarship, while out-of-state students receive an annual stipend of $10,400 and out-of-state tuition waivers. Ramsey Scholars also receive $3,000 in travel-study grants for additional academic opportunities and will enroll in the UGA Honors Program.
