Athens, Ga. - The University of Georgia, in collaboration with the Athens Area Manufacturers Council, will conduct a survey on wages of local manufacturing companies this spring. The results of the wage survey, which targets industries in Athens, Oconee and surrounding areas, will assist local manufacturers in all aspects of budget preparation, hiring and personnel planning. The survey is the first of its kind in the state.

An information session will be held on Feb. 6 from 4:30-6 p.m. at the Georgia BioBusiness Center, 111 Riverbend Road in Athens.

The completed survey will provide timely information on salary structure, benefits and other human resources information in aggregate form. The project will be coordinated by the UGA Office of Economic Development in partnership with Athens Technical College and will be conducted by the Carl Vinson Institute of Government. The Athens Area Manufacturers Council commissioned the survey.

"The type of regional information being gathered in this survey will assist Eaton Corporation in remaining competitive in the marketplace," said Doug Spencer, human resources manager at Eaton Superchargers in Athens. Eaton Corporation, a global manufacturer of engine components, has as many as 250 employees located at its Athens plant at any time. "Access to confidential information that is reported from an accredited university with high integrity will enable us to retain and attract more jobs in Northeast Georgia," he said.
