UGA College of Education doctoral graduate named “Young Researcher of the Year” in education technol

ATHENS, Ga. – Jennifer M. Brill, a 2002 doctoral graduate of the University of Georgia College of Education’s instructional technology program, recently received the “Young Researcher of the Year” award from the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT).

Brill, now an assistant professor in the department of education and human services at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., submitted a paper for the award titled, “School by design: How members of one school community create (and recreate) student success through inquiry.” She conducted her research in one of the League of Professional Schools in Gwinnett County. The paper, derived from Brill’s dissertation, was coauthored with Thomas Reeves, professor of instructional technology at UGA.

“The Young Researcher award is a high honor,” said Reeves. “Only one is given each year and some years no one is deemed worthy.” The award included an honorarium.

Robert Branch, professor and department head of instructional technology at UGA, won the same award shortly after finishing his doctorate at Virginia Tech University.

The paper has been submitted to the Educational Technology Research and Development journal for further review and eventual publication.
