“Catch and Release” exhibition and lecture planned at the University of Georgia

Athens, Ga. – The second artist in this year’s Lamar Dodd School of Art Visiting Artist/Scholar Series, fine art photographer David Hilliard will give a lecture on his work on Sept. 27 at 5:30 p.m. in room 101 of the Student Learning Center. Following the lecture will be an opening reception for “Catch and Release,” an exhibition of Hilliard’s work in the Main Gallery of the Visual Arts Building on Jackson Street. Both the lecture and the reception are free and open to students, faculty and the public.

Currently an assistant professor of photography at Massachusetts College of Art, Hilliard has had three solo exhibitions already this year: “Embellish” at Mark Moore Gallery in Santa Monica and at Jackson Fine Art in Atlanta, and “David Hilliard – New Works” at Bernard Toale Gallery in Boston. His work is in the permanent collections of the Whitney in New York, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Sir Elton John, Fogg Museum at Harvard and the Los Angeles County Museum.

Hilliard will be at UGA Sept. 25-29, giving him ample time to work directly with students of the school of art, especially photography majors. His visit and exhibition are sponsored by the Lamar Dodd School of Art, the Photography Department and Jackson Fine Art, Atlanta.
