UGA Bursar’s Office announces online enhancements, including ebill, echeck and direct deposit

ATHENS, Ga. –  The University of Georgia Bursar’s Office will offer students several online enhancements to view, make deposits and pay bills on their student accounts, with new ebill, echeck and direct deposits options available Nov. 1.

The Bursar’s Office also has contracted with a third-party vendor to accept credit card payments, saving UGA some $600,000 annually in credit card processing costs, funds that will be redirected toward the primary missions of the institution: instruction, research and service.

Holley Schramski, UGA associate vice president and controller, said students and families have for some time requested the ability for additional access to billing information by individuals other than the student. Beginning Nov. 1, students will have the ability to authorize other users, such as their parents, to access certain billing and payment information online.

The Bursar’s Office will begin accepting electronic checks as a method of payment beginning Nov. 1, at no cost to students. Students can pay their bills electronically without using the mail and will receive immediate credit for payments on their student accounts. The Bursar’s Office will continue to accept check and cash payments by mail or in person.

In addition to electronic payments, students also will have the option to sign-up online for direct deposit of financial aid and certain student account refunds.

A third-party vendor will accept credit card payments for UGA with a service fee of 2.75 percent, with a minimum $3 fee per transaction. The third-party vendor will accept American Express, Discover and Mastercard. At this time, Visa is not a participant.
