National Cyber Security Awareness Month events planned at UGA

Athens, Ga. – In observance of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, the UGA Office of Information Security has scheduled several events to take place on Oct. 23. The goal of National Cyber Security Awareness Month is to increase the public’s awareness of cyber security and crimes issues so that users can take precautions to avoid these threats on the Internet.

“The Office of Information Security participates in National Cyber Security Awareness Month to enhance, enlighten and empower our community against crime on the Internet,” said Stanton Gatewood, UGA’s chief information security officer. “SATE (Security Awareness, Training and Education) is the best return on our investment for lowering the risk of living and socializing in Cyberspace.”

The complete agenda for the day, including times and locations, is as follows:

9 – 10 a.m. Keynote – Bobby Stanley, special agent, Georgia Bureau of Investigation

10 – 11:30 a.m. Cyber Security Panel— Experts discuss issues relating to Information
Security, Homeland Security, Security and Emergency Preparedness and how these impact UGA, the Athens community and beyond
