Athens, Ga. – Jenny Penney Oliver, chair of the Dean’s Council for Diversity in the University of Georgia College of Education, has been elected as secretary of the Georgia chapter of the National Association for Multicultural Education.
Oliver served as member-at-large of the GA-NAME Board of Directors from 2003-06 and was re-elected to a second term for 2006-09. She co-chaired the 2005 NAME international conference and has chaired the GA-NAME nominations and elections committee since 2005.
NAME was founded in 1990 as an organization bringing together individuals and groups with an interest in multicultural education from all levels of education, and representatives from businesses and communities. Members in 22 states have formed NAME chapters.
Oliver, a senior academic professional in the department of counseling and human development services, received her Ph.D. from Kansas State University. She joined the UGA faculty in 1994.
