Administrative Changes

  • Kelly Simmons, a former staff writer for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, has been named editor of Georgia Magazine, UGA’s quarterly alumni magazine. She succeeds Kent Hannon, who is now editor of the Terry College of Business’ alumni magazine.
  • Karen E. Holt, former executive director of the nonprofit organization Project Pericles, became director of the Fanning Institute July 1. 
  • Max Harrell is the new manager of the printing department, a part of auxiliary services. He succeeds George Smith, who retired in March after 30 years at the university. 
  • Georgia Strange, currently the director of the Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Arts at Indiana University in Bloomington, has been named director of UGA’s Lamar Dodd School of Art. 
  • Gerard J. Kowalski, director of residence life at Virginia Tech, has been named executive director of university housing at UGA with an anticipated start date in mid-July. He succeeds James Day, who served in the position since 1990 and retired March 31. 
  • Steve L. Brown, entomology professor in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, was named interim assistant dean of UGA’s Tifton campus. He succeeds David C. Bridges, who was named president of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
