All UGA sports OK’d by NCAA

None of the university’s 21 varsity intercollegiate sports teams will incur any penalties resulting from the annual NCAA Academic Progress Report released as a part of the organization’s continuing academic reform.

The APR is a point system based on scholarship athletes’ eligibility and retention for a pre-determined time period. NCAA sports falling below the established point cutoff are subject to penalties including scholarship reductions.

Eighteen of UGA’s sports were above the 925 APR target score while three others (baseball and men’s indoor and outdoor track) were within the “confidence boundary” and not subject to any penalties. The confidence boundary is a statistical adjustment made for sports with specific sample sizes.

Ten of the university’s sports, including football and men’s basketball, scored above the national average in several categories including all Division I institutions, all Division 1-A institutions and all Division I public institutions.
