Big fish

An article on PhysOrg.com about how over-fishing of large predator fish negatively impacts the aquatic ecosystem quoted Jacob Allgeier, a doctoral student in the Odum School of Ecology.

“The effects are not just top-down,” Allgeier said. “When you eliminate these large predators, you also eliminate a major source of nutrients for algae and plants in the food web, especially in tropical and sub-tropical coastal areas.”
