Charles W. Mims received Distinguished Mycologist Award

Charles W. Mims, professor of plant pathology, received the Distinguished Mycologist Award from the Mycological Society of America. This is the highest award given by MSA for contributions in mycology, the science dealing with the study of fungi.

A member of MSA since 1968, Mims has served the organization in numerous capacities including councilor, vice president, president and associate editor for Mycologia, the official journal of MSA. He also has served on the editorial boards of The International Journal of Plant Sciences and Mycological Research, the official journal of the British Mycological Society. He has received both the Alexopoulos Award for Research and the Weston Award for Teaching given by MSA.

Mims is the third UGA faculty member to receive the Distinguished Mycologist Award.

The late E. S. Luttrell won the award in 1983, and R. T. Hanlin was the recipient in 1999.
