Communications professionals receive awards

Communications professionals receive awards

The University of Georgia received 10 awards in the 2008-2009 competition for District III of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. Overall, UGA communications professionals received six Awards of Excellence and four Special Merit Awards.

Michael Childs, Ron Braxley and Troy Bassett, all in the College of Education, along with Kudzu Graphics of Athens, received an Award of Excellence for the college’s campaign to mark its centennial.

In the direct mail category, Mary Andrews, a designer in public affairs’ publications office, received an Award of Excellence for the Alumni Association’s “World Tours Brochure.” She also received an Award of Excellence for her design of a program entitled “An Evening of Music.”

The soon-to-be-launched Goin’ Back Web site created by Derek Greer, Fran Lane and Bill Evelyn in the public affairs office, received an Award of Excellence in the category for World Wide Web homepage design and implementation.

Three UGA magazines received awards as well.

Edited by Helen Fosgate in the Office of the Vice President for Research and designed by Lindsay Bland Robinson in public affairs’ publications office, ugaresearch magazine, received an Award of Excellence. Outreach Magazine, published by the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach and staffed by Kathleen Cason and Amanda Swennes and designed by the AdSmith of Athens, received a Special Merit Award. The staff of Georgia Magazine (Kelly Simmons, Allyson Mann, Cheri Wranosky, Andrew Davis Tucker and Pamela Leed), received a Special Merit Award in the alumni magazine category.

“Going green,” an illustration by Leigh Ellis for the cover of the March 2008 issue of Georgia Magazine received a Special Merit Award in the visual design category. The newsletter published by the Lamar Dodd School of Art received a Special Merit Award in the improvement in design category.

Peter Frey, a photographer in the broadcast, video and photo services unit of public affairs, received a Special Merit Award in the photography category for his photo entitled “Dance Marathon Morale Boosters.”

The awards were presented at the annual CASE District III conference, held Feb. 8-11 in Atlanta.
