American Council on Education revamps stance on affirmative action

Following the Supreme Court’s ruling in two cases involving race-based public school assignment policies, the American Council on Education issued a paper updating its legal advice on affirmative action for colleges and universities, the Chronicle of Higher Education reported.

The ACE paper advises that colleges must show that their pursuit of diversity is important to their missions, that their policies have educational benefits and that they have considered ways to achieve diversity that do not involve taking applicants’ race or ethnicity into account.
