Cultural center to host pre-Kwanzaa celebration

Athens, Ga. – The African American Cultural Center at the University of Georgia will host its annual pre-Kwanzaa celebration on Dec. 4 at 4 p.m. in the Tate Student Center grand hall. The event will feature performances by Atlanta’s Giwayen Mata Dance Company, UGA’s Pamoja Dance Company and members of cultural center’s student organizations.

A traditional Karamu feast will be held following the program.

Kwanzaa is a weeklong celebration honoring universal African heritage and culture. The celebration is observed in the U.S. from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1 each year.

The pre-Kwanzaa celebration is free and open to members of the UGA and local communities. Business or ethnic attire is requested. Tickets are required and are available at the African American Cultural Center located in Memorial Hall room 404 or by calling 706/542-8468.

The African American Cultural Center is a unit within the UGA Division of Student Affairs.
