Date her later

Pamela Orpinas, professor and interim head of the health promotion and behavior department in the College of Public Health, was featured in a number of media outlet stories about her research on early teen dating. That research showed that early daters were more likely to drop out of high school and engage in substance abuse.

Orpinas was quoted in a story by the online news site The Daily Beast, which suggested that it may be better for teens to wait before dating.

“Among adults or older adolescents or young adults, dating is actually a really good thing,” Orpinas told the news site, “because you’re more stable, happier and less likely to do drugs.”
