Credit union changes its name

The Georgia Federal Credit Union has adopted a new name and is now Georgia United Credit Union.

“This new name reflects our history, with solid roots right here in Georgia,” said Kim T. Wall, vice president for community development. “It represents who we’ve become-an organization united in helping Georgia families build stronger futures. And, it supports the future of the credit union as we look to connect with others who share our values, so we can continue to provide more products, services and conveniences to all our members.”

Credit union members overwhelmingly voted last fall to approve a conversion from a federal charter to a state charter, to allow more growth and service opportunities. That charter change necessitated a change to the credit union’s name.

“The new name will have minimal impact on our 84,000 member owners,” Wall said. “Our new name and logo will be introduced over the next few months-as debit and credit cards are reissued, checks are reordered and signs are updated.”

The credit union’s popular Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program begins Feb. 1 (see Bulletin Board).
