UGA's Terry College of Business to host Diversity Business Expo on April 15 for high school and college students interested in business careers

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business will host its first Diversity Business Expo on April 15, from 1-4 p.m. at the newly expanded Tate Student Center.

The expo is open to all students, with a particular emphasis on high school students from underserved communities. The purpose of the expo is to pair students with business professionals in order to highlight possible careers and other opportunities that a business education can provide, said Randy Groomes, director of diversity relations and recruitment in the Terry College.

“We believe that this Diversity Business Expo will be a great initial tool in preparing high school students for successful careers,” Groomes said. “Students will be able to learn about various companies, their operations, and the many opportunities they offer. They can also learn about the important traits that companies seek, the dress code that is expected in a work environment, and the significance of internships, leadership experiences and networking.”

The expo will feature seminars specifically designed for high school students on “Creating your Brand in High School” and “Preparing for Success in College and Beyond.” In addition, the students will hear from top-rated morning radio show host Frank Ski before meeting and networking with corporate representatives.

“We are working with schools in the state and encouraging them to make this a field trip for their students,” Groomes said. “And the companies that get involved with this will have the opportunity to reach out to students from our own campus and across the state to attract future talent and share practical advice.”

Each student who attends the expo will receive a free copy of the Terry Success Guide.

Schools, employers and corporate recruiters should contact Groomes at 706/542-1379 or rgroomes@terry.uga.edu to register or for more information.
