East Carolina University is suing tech company Cisco over the use of the slogan “Tomorrow Starts Here.” Cisco began using the motto in a new ad campaign launched in December, replacing its old tagline “the human network.”
University Chancellor Steve Ballard said in a news release that ECU has used the slogan for more than a decade and the legal action was necessary “to protect that defining trademark of our identity and vision.” A Cisco representative told a Reuters reporter the new campaign “does not create any confusion in the marketplace.”
