EcoFocus Film Festival continues through Oct. 30

The second annual EcoFocus Film Festival, an initiative of UGA’s Eugene P. Odum School of Ecology, continues through Oct. 30. General admission tickets are $8 or $6 for students and Ciné members. For matinee shows before 6 p.m., tickets are $6 or $5 for students or members. Advance tickets are available at the Ciné box office (234 W. Hancock Ave.), which opens at 4 p.m. daily.

In addition to the ticketed films, all showings of three different films will be free and open to the public. Tapped, an examination of the big business of bottled water, will be shown Oct. 14 at 5:30 p.m. at Ciné. Addicted to Plastic will be shown Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. in the ecology auditorium. It also will be shown Oct. 23 at 11:30 a.m., Oct. 24 at 5:25 p.m. and Oct. 25 at 3:15 p.m. at Ciné. Milking the Rhino will be shown Oct. 22 at 12:30 p.m. in the ecology auditorium. 

The Cove, a film about dolphin hunting in Japan, will be shown Oct. 12-15 at 5 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at Ciné.

On Oct. 17, EcoFocus will present the Geodome multimedia party, during which festival attendees can participate in an interactive experience with the Geodome Project. Admission is $8. 

Also at the party will be Our New Silence, a collective performance of various local and UGA musicians who are remixing/reinterpreting traditional music recordings from Java, Indonesia, based on the Javasounds recording project.

On Oct. 23 the film Saving Luna will be shown at 7 p.m. at Ciné. After the screening, filmmaker Michael Parfit and Lori Marino, a researcher and lecturer from Emory University, will lead a discussion of the film which explores the relationship between humans and wildlife. A reception will follow the screening. Admission is $8.

Another highlight of the festival will be the closing party, which will be held Oct. 25 at the Hotel Indigo. Tickets, which are $12, can be purchased in advance online or at the door. 

New film showings begin Fridays during the festival, and the entire schedule of festival events is online at www.ecofocusfilmfest.org.
