Elizabeth King and National Science Foundation

Elizabeth King, an assistant professor in the Odum School of Ecology and Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, received $249,525 from the National Science Foundation to examine how people in poor, rural sections of developing countries are changing their livelihood to cope with deteriorating environmental conditions, shifting social trends and broader changes in governance. With her co-principal investigator Laura German, an assistant professor in Franklin College’s anthropology department, King will evaluate how the transition to agro-pastoralism in two Maasai communities in Kenya is affecting human well-being, food security and ecological sustainability.
