Emory admits ‘misrepresenting’ data

Officials at Emory University acknowledged that administrators intentionally misreported admissions data to third-party groups dating back more than a decade. The false data was sent to U.S. News & World Report, the U.S. Department of Education and other third parties.

The use of misreported data was first discovered in May by Emory, which prompted a three-month investigation. Emory was recently ranked 20th in the U.S. News & World Report’s college rankings. The misreported data given to the publication is part of the formula used to determine the rankings.
