Fall enrollment at UGA down slightly

UGA’s total fall enrollment is 34,677, down one-half of 1 percent from last year. There are 7,752 new students attending the university, with 4,333 first-time freshmen. Freshmen enrollment is down less than 1 percent.

Significant growth of more than 8 percent was seen in many schools, colleges and programs throughout the university, with slight decreases experienced at UGA’s extended campuses. For the second year in a row, the Faculty of Engineering saw the largest enrollment increase, with a 47.4 percent growth from 114 students in 2009 to 168 in 2010.

UGA’s total enrollment figures included 33,713 students on UGA’s main campus in Athens, a decrease of less than one quarter of 1 percent. At the university’s extended campuses in Gwinnett County, Tifton, Griffin and Buckhead in Atlanta, 871 students enrolled, an
8.6 percent decrease from last fall. An additional 93 students took part in UGA’s independent study.
