Fat cats. . . and dogs

The Wall Street Journal, in an article about a spike in pet obesity caused by their owners over-feeding them, quoted Steven Budsberg, director of clinical research in the College of Veterinary Medicine and professor of small animal medicine.

“Obesity in pets is almost the equivalent of smoking in human medicine,” Budsberg said. “There’s the high cost to people, and it’s self-induced. I never met a German shepherd who could open the refrigerator or food bag and pour himself another bowl.”
