The Facilities Management Division’s Grounds Department was awarded the 2022 PGMS Green Star Honor Award, a national program that recognizes institutions whose grounds are maintained with a high degree of excellence. The Grounds Department was also awarded the 2022 Excellence in Urban Forestry Outstanding Education Grant Award for the University Walking Tours, submitted on behalf of the Campus Arboretum Committee. The Excellence in Urban Forestry program recognizes institutions that have been prominently creative and effective in efforts to inform and educate Georgians about trees and natural resources in the urban environment.

“We commend those instrumental in the establishment of both the UGA Arboretum and the walking tours,” said Mary Lynne Beckley, executive director of the Georgia Tree Council. “Providing a website with virtual tours that can be enjoyed through a screen or in-person opens up opportunities for a larger audience to learn about the campus trees.”
