Fausto Sarmiento, an associate professor of mountain science in the geography department, has been named a Fulbright Scholar Ambassador for the 2009-2011 term.

The task of these goodwill academic ambassadors is to promote the program to college and university faculty members and other professionals, based on their personal experiences and to provide information to prospective participants applying to the varied options of the Fulbright programs.

Sarmiento’s appointment for an initial three-year term will take him to visit campuses across the U.S., with the message of developing mutual understanding for peace and progress, which is what the late Sen. William Fulbright worked so diligently for in the past.
