Children’s chorus to present ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’

Youth ages 8-18 make up the 100-voice Georgia Children’s Chorus. The group will give a concert May 8 in the Performing Arts Center.

The Georgia Children’s Chorus, a 100-voice choir in-residence at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music will give its spring concert, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” May 8 at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Concert tickets are $5 each.

Concert selections include a rainbow-themed medley including Somewhere Over the Rainbow, selections from Leonard Bernstein’s Mass and pieces sung in Zambian, Serbian, Hebrew and Latin. John Rutter’s All Things Bright and Beautiful and a traditional gospel piece also showcase the musical styles the choir has learned this year. The chorus is directed by Carol Reeves and accompanied by Erica McClellan.

The Georgia Children’s Chorus is a tuition-based choral training program for children aged 8-18 from Northeast Georgia. Auditions are now open to singers for the 2012-2013 season.
