Golf course renovation

Portions of the UGA golf course will be closed while it undergoes  a major renovation beginning  mid-May.  With normal weather conditions, the renovation is expected to take six months to complete.

Improvements will include the rebuilding of all greens complexes to improve drainage and meet championship standards.  To attract more players to the course, ten of the holes will be lengthened with new championship tees, while forward tees will be added on 11 holes to improve the playability for women, senior and junior golfers.  Additionally, approximately one third of the cart paths will be replaced.

The driving range tee will remain open during the renovation, but the chipping/-pitching area will close for renovations in April. The large chipping/putting green will be rebuilt, creating a more modern short game area. With good weather, the chipping area will reopen some time in August.

Preliminary plans also include renovation of the clubhouse.  The café, lounge and bathrooms will be updated.  The golf shop will remain open and normal items will continue to be stocked, but on a smaller scale. However, it is not yet known if the café will remain open during the entire process.

Updates on the renovation can be viewed online (www.golfcourse.uga.edu). For more information, call the course’s general manager, Dave Cousart (369-5739).
