Athens, Ga. – Three graduating University of Georgia students willing to share their collegiate experiences are available to speak with the media.
Approximately 5,375 students are eligible to participate in graduation exercises, which will be held May 11. Gov. Nathan Deal will deliver the keynote address during the undergraduate ceremony, which will be held at 7 p.m. in Sanford Stadium, and earlier in the day, Lindsay R. Boring, director of the Joseph W. Jones Ecological Research Center at Ichauway in southwest Georgia, will speak at the graduate Commencement exercise at 10 a.m. in Stegeman Coliseum.

During her graduate studies, Carlson was involved with Project Safe as an advocate for survivors of domestic violence, and she founded a nonprofit organization that assists people in finding mental health services. Following graduation, she will assume a position with the Atlanta YWCA as lead shelter advocate. While at UGA, she was a Fanning Fellow.

McDonald will provide the student address at the undergraduate ceremony on May 11. A member of the Honors Program, McDonald was a UGA Presidential Scholar and a recipient of the Honors International Scholarship. In addition, he was a recent member of Leadership UGA, one of 40 selected from a pool of more than 100 graduate and undergraduate nominees; a Grady Ambassador, chosen to represent the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at various events; a student judge for the Peabody Awards; a student volunteer at NewSource 15; and director of Case Administration for the University Judiciary. Last summer, McDonald traveled to Cambodia where he studied journalism at Phnom Penh. After graduation, he will work for two years with Teach For America.

Pique has been selected as one of 20 nationwide participants and the first undergraduate from UGA to receive a one-year post-baccalaureate traineeship at any laboratory within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the second-largest institute of the National Institutes of Health. During his collegiate career, Pique participated in the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities program and was a Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Research Scholar.
