Computer health, security fair to be held

Building on the success of last year’s Computer Health and Security Fairs, Enterprise Information Technology Services is partnering with the university’s Telecommunications, Electronics and Computer Services for the spring 2009 Computer Health and Security Fair.

TEC Services, a unit within the Office of Research Services, will be on site along with EITS consultants and technicians to provide a security checkup for laptop computers.

UGA students, faculty, and staff can bring their laptops to the second floor lobby of the Miller Learning Center April 21 from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. for security assistance.

The security checkup includes virus scans and software updates, spyware removal and more. Requests will be prioritized on a first-come, first-served basis. Security professionals also will be on hand to provide information about the dangers of phishing attacks and how computer users can protect themselves against these and other identity theft attempts.

This spring’s fair is being conducted in support of UGA’s comprehensive information security awareness, training, and education program, SecureUGA.
