The Hugh Hodgson School of Music will present its annual holiday concert Dec. 1-2 at 8 p.m. in Hugh Hodgson Concert Hall in the Performing Arts Center. Tickets for the concert are $25, $5 for students and available through the Performing Arts Center box office at 706-542-4400. Tickets sales for the concerts will support the 2nd Thursday Scholarship fund in the school of music.

The evening’s program will feature six choral ensembles in the music school: the UGA Hodgson Singers, the University Chorus, the Women’s Glee Club, the Men’s Glee Club, Classic City Jazz and Collegium Musicum. Accompaniment for the concert will be provided by the UGA Symphony Orchestra.

The concert will include an audience sing-along to Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful and three choruses from George Frideric Handel’s Messiah.

Opening the second half is Randol Alan Bass’ festive and lyrical piece, Gloria. The UGA Symphony Orchestra will then perform the Pas de deux from The Nutcracker, which will be followed by Christmas favorites performed by  Classic City Jazz. The evening will close with the familiar Christmas medley entitled The Many Moods of Christmas.

“This concert is always a favorite among our singers and audience members alike,” said Daniel Bara, director of choral activities. “In addition to ushering in a season whose themes embrace the ideas of sharing, charity and goodwill among all people, the concert celebrates the wealth of talent found in our UGA student musicians. With nearly 200 singers joined by a professional-caliber symphony orchestra made up of UGA’s finest student instrumentalists, there is, indeed, much to celebrate.”
