Honoring ‘Mr. Higher Education’

A bust of the late state legislator R. Chappelle Matthews, known as “Mr. Higher Education” in the Georgia House of Representatives, was unveiled Sept. 30 in front of Treanor House. Taking part in the dedication ceremony were (from left) Vince Matthews, a nephew of Matthews from Colorado;  Susan Kent Matthews, Matthews’ niece from North Carolina; Eugene Younts, former UGA vice president for public service; UGA President Michael F. Adams; Jennifer Frum, interim vice president for public service and outreach; and William “Dink” NeSmith, vice chair of the board of regents.
