UGA to celebrate Honors Week April 17-21

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia will celebrate the achievements of its students, faculty, staff and alumni in a series of events during Honors Week, April 17-21.

Honors Week is an annual tradition at UGA that dates to the 1930s, when then-Chancellor S.V. Sanford set aside a day to recognize exemplary students. In 2011, the event expanded to a week to include events recognizing faculty, staff and alumni.

“Honors Week underscores the fact that the University of Georgia’s growing reputation as a leader in public higher education is rooted in the extraordinary accomplishments of our students, faculty, staff and alumni,” said Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Pamela Whitten.

Honors Week activities include the Public Service and Outreach Meeting and Awards Luncheon and the 2017 UGA Alumni Awards Luncheon, which are open to the public, in addition to several invitation-only events. Numerous departments across the schools and colleges also will be holding special recognition ceremonies for honored students in their disciplines. For more information, go to
