Illinois State University expels student who asked about buying gun

A Thai student who inquired about his ability to buy a gun during a writing exam was expelled from Illinois State University and taken into custody four days after the incident occurred, the Associated Press reported.

University officials had several clashes with Rithichai Yibcharoenporn throughout his four years on campus, where he was a graduate student in English. Following his question, the university dismissed Yibcharoenporn and helped U.S. Immigration and Customs officials take him into custody for deportation because his visa became invalid when he was expelled. University officials say their decision was not influenced by the Virginia Tech shooting tragedy.
