Annette Evans, UGA procurement officer, was elected to the board of directors for the National Association of Educational Procurement for District III for the 2008-2009 term.
NAEP is the national association representing the procurement profession in higher education and affiliated institutes. Its membership includes 4,000 procurement professionals from colleges, research institutions, hospitals and K-12 schools.
Christopher Morphew, an associate professor and graduate program coordinator at the Institute of Higher Education, was elected to the board of directors for the Association for the Study of Higher Education.
ASHE is a scholarly society with approximately 1,900 members dedicated to higher education as a field of study.
Diane Samdahl, a professor in the College of Education, was elected to the board of directors for the Society for Park and Recreation Educators.
Samdahl, who is in the department of counseling and human development services, will serve a three-year term on the board. Her research interests focus on the sociology of leisure, particularly women’s leisure.
Alan Stewart, an associate professor of counseling psychology in the College of Education, has been named president-elect of the Population and Environmental Psychology division of the American Psychological Association.
The division examines the psychology of natural and constructed environments and population psychology. Stewart will serve a one-year term.
Stewart’s research interests include death notification following fatal vehicular crashes; death notification training; the psychological effects of surviving serious crashes; and behavioral climatology. He also has studied family emotional processes and the ways in which language can be used to characterize one’s family of origin experiences or to construct healing narratives in the aftermath of a trauma.
Barbara A. White, chief information officer and associate provost, is serving as chair-elect of the University System of Georgia Administrative Committee on Information Technology. She will become chair in April 2009.
In her role as chair-elect, White will provide leadership for information technology in higher education in concert with the CIO’s and other executive IT leadership at the 35 University System of Georgia institutions. The chair-elect is responsible for coordination and oversight of all ACIT standing committees. The chair-elect also assists the chair in briefings to the board of regents and assumes the chair’s responsibilities in the event that the chair is unable to attend meetings or fulfill responsibilities.
The ACIT focuses on policies and procedures affecting information technology within the University System. These include, but are not limited to, the areas of electronic communication networks, computing hardware, administrative information systems, academic information systems, and other computing activities.
