An Associated Press story about the negative effects of the pigweed palmer amaranth on cotton crops quoted Stanley Culpepper, associate professor of crop and soil sciences.

“We’ve mowed down many thousands of acres of cotton,” Culpepper said. “Since the boll weevil, there’s been no pest as challenging as this one-without a doubt.”
